The Revel Room is one of those places I always manage to walk by but never go in. NOT THIS TIME! YEEEEE!
I popped by with my coworker Sean, to check out the live jazz on Tuesday night. The band playing is a Maple Blues Winner; Steve Kozak Trio, featuring Steve Kozak on vocals and guitar, Roger Brant on bass, and Chris Nordquist on drums. We thought it was more of a mixture of rockabilly than strictly blues, but hey, it was awesome so we weren’t complaining.
First round I had a Dill-quiri – a pickle twist on a daiquiri. I loved it! Refreshing, and not too overpowering with dill, only downside – you might get the muddled dill in your teeth so avoid on a first date. It features havana club 3 year rum, fresh muddled dill and cucumber, fresh lime, and apple cider shrub. Don’t bother checking for it on the menu online – their site seems to be outdated.
Sean got a Boston Whiskey Sour and the Italian Sausage Sandwich ($13) with tomato relish, parmesan, and fries – with homemade ketchup. Hidden through out the bar there’s little references to their ‘mascot’ Stay Pufty (that little marshmallow man from Ghostbusters). He’s featured on their blog, and if you look closely he’s above the bar with his twinsies.
Next I ordered a Chai Me A River ($10 with happy hour), which had chai tea infused vodka, muddled lemon wedge, honey, and house orange bitters. Which I wasn’t a fan of, but thankfully Sean stumbled on the 20th Century and we switched. It was the best cocktail I have EVER had. EVER. EVAAAR. The 20th Century is truly a gem – and basically needs to get in my mouth right meow. It features fillet blanc, dry gin, creme de cacao, and fresh lemon.
Music started at 7pm, and I ordered another 20th Century while Sean finished up with a beer (they have Red Truck Lager + Ale, Driftwood Fat Tug IPA + White Bark Wheat Ale, and Guinness on tap)
– Many thanks to Sean for sharing photo duties
